| Tent camping is allowed in most areas of the Cherokee National Forest, which is a large part of Carter County. There are also trail shelters along the Appalachian Trail. The US Forest Service operates several primitve campgrounds including Dennis Cove and Carden's Bluff on Watauga Lake. |
