| Camping |
| Tent camping is allowed in most areas of the Cherokee National Forest, which is a large part of Carter County. There are also trail shelters along the Appalachian Trail. The US Forest Service has several camping areas with limited facilities including one in Dennis Cove. Little Stoney and Carden's Bluff are on Watauga Lake. Some camping area are closed in the winter months. |
