Here are a couple photos of purple fog on Roan Mountain. It had been alternating rain and sun through the day. Near sunset the area turned into this eerie thick purple haze. It only lasted a couple minutes.

Unusual atmospheric phenomena are normal on Roan Mountain. Being inside the weather gives an immediate and intimate perspective. The best views are found on cool clear sunny days. However, the most interesting scenes are often found after a summer shower has passed through.
